Deflagration - Deflagration is a process of subsonic combustion that usually propagates through thermal conductivity (hot burning material heats the next layer of cold material and ignites it). Deflagration is different from detonation which is supersonic and propagates through shock compression.
Low explosive - A low explosive is a combustible substance that decomposes rapidly (deflagration), but does not explode under normal conditions. Under certain conditions, though, it is possible for them to detonate, usually through the combined use with high explosives.
Gunpowder - Gunpowder, whether black powder or smokeless powder, is a substance that burns very rapidly and is used as a propellant in firearms. As it burns, a subsonic deflagration wave is produced rather than the supersonic detonation wave which high explosives would produce.
