Neuronal tuning - Neuronal tuning refers to the property of brain cells to selectively represent a particular kind of sensory, motor or cognitive information. For example, an auditory system neuron best responding to the sound of particular frequency is said to be tuned to that frequency.
Mesenchymal stem cell - Mesenchymal stem cells or marrow stromal cells (MSC), are stem cells that can differentiate into osteoblasts, chondrocytes, myocytes, adipocytes, neuronal cells, and, as described lately, into beta-pancreatic islets cells. MSC differentiate from colony-forming unit-fibroblast (CFU-F).
Glial cell - Glial cells, commonly called neuroglia or simply glia, are non-neuronal cells that provide support and nutrition, maintain homeostasis, form myelin, and participate in signal transmission in the nervous system. In the human brain, glia are estimated to outnumber neurons by as much as 50 to 1.
Histochemical tracer - A histochemical tracer is a compound used to reveal the location of cells and track neuronal projections. A neuronal tracer may be retrograde, anterograde or work in both directions.
QBM Cell Science - Produces cryopreserved neuronal cells from rat brain cortex, hippocampus and striatum. Includes technical instructions for thawing and culture for disassociated primary neurons, pages, protocols on immunohistochemistry, prices and contacts in Ottawa, Canada.
Neuron - Neuroscience journal published by Cell press. Abstracts since 1988 available for free. Fulltext issues available for 1996-current issues.
Neurotransplantation for Patients with Paralysis After Stroke - Overview of the University of Pittsburgh's study of neuronal cell transplantation for the treatment of stroke. Updates on the research program are provided.
