Compartmentalization - Compartmentalization is the method intracellular organelles use to isolate different conditions from other organelles. For example, mitochondria and lysosomes are bounded with membranes.
Peroxisome - Peroxisomes are ubiquitous organelles in eukaryotes that function to rid the cell of toxic substances. They have a single membrane that separates their contents from the cytosol (the internal fluid of the cell) and that contains membrane proteins critical for various functions, such as importing proteins into the organelles and aiding in proliferation.
Endomembrane system - The endomembrane system is the system of internal membranes within eukaryotic cells that divide the cell into functional and structural compartments, or organelles. Prokaryotes do not have an endomembrane system and thus lack most organelles.
Stereocilia - Stereocilia are mechanosensing organelles of hair cells, which respond to fluid motion or fluid pressure changes in numerous types of animals for numerous functions. As acoustic sensors in mammals, they are lined up in the Organ of Corti in the cochlea of the inner ear.
Cellular Respiration - Overview of biochemistry of energy conversion within the organelle, as part of Kimball's Biology Pages.
Cell Biology - Topics by organelle system, as part of the interactive learning program at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Little Rock, AR.
The Physiome Project - An integrated multi-centric program to design, develop, implement, test and document, archive and disseminate quantitative information and integrative models of the functional behavior of organelles, cells, tissues, organs, and organisms
